It is the scientific name of an extinct armadillo that existed in Argentina. The word Chlamiphractus (which is the name of the taxonomic genus), is made up of two Greek roots Chlamy which means layer, mantle or shell and phractus which means reinforced or fortified, thicker. The epithet dimartinoi, which is an eponymous, is the dedication to a scientist named Di Martino, who made the findings of his fossils in Arroyo Chasicó, called Vicente Di Martino.
